Workshop on
A Strategy for Cleaner Coal in China, sponsored by IEA, was held in
CCII on May 15th, 2008. President Huang Shengchu from CCII, Mr Zhang
Guo from Energy Bureau of NDRC attended the workshop, officials from
IEA including Mr. Ian CRONSHAW, Dr. Brian RICKETTS and Dr Jonathan
SINTON as well. Also 30 foreign representatives from large coal
companies of IEA member countries, such as Electric Power Research
Institute, Peabody Energy Co. Inc., BHP Billiton, Siberian Coal
Energy Co. (SUEK), RWE Power AG and other organizations, and more
than 10 Chinese experts presented at the workshop. Totally there are
more than 40 attendees. And it was co-chaired by president Huang
Shengchu and Dr Jonathan SINTON from IEA. Findings of the project A
Strategy for Cleaner Coal in China was discussed in the workshop and
comments and recommendations on further improvement were put
forward.
The project was agreed by NDRC and IEA when Chen Deming, former
deputy president of NDRC, met with the head of IEA Claude Mandil on
January 19th 2007. CCII and experts from IEA member countries were
authorized to implement the research jointly. The main topics of the
research include coal resource development, coal mine safety,
cleaner coal utilization and environment and so on. It aims at
producing strategies and political recommendations on accelerating
cleaner coal technology development in china by investigating into
the problems and challenges existing in China’s coal industry and
analyzing future development direction and opportunities for cleaner
coal technology in China. Liu Wenge, director of Energy and Safety
Division, and project team members also attended the workshop.

Co. Inc., BHP Billiton, Siberian Coal Energy Co.(SUEK), RWE

attended the workshop. |
