UK-China Workshop on Underground Coal Gasification ¨C Clean,
Commercial Power Generation
¡¡
25/26 March 2003, Beijing

A one and a half day workshop on underground coal gasification (UCG) will be held at the Landmark hotel in Beijing on 25&26 March 2003.  The results of a UK-China UCG technology collaboration project, sponsored by the China government and the UK¡¯s Department of Trade and Industry will be presented and discussed.  The different approaches to UCG in China and Europe will be compared together with recent technological developments, commercial opportunities and challenges.

UCG topics will include environmental impacts and benefits, production technologies, gas cleaning, gas turbine power generation, drilling technologies, computer modelling, laboratory research, risks, problems and potential for commercialisation.

UCG is potentially the most important clean coal technology of the future. It will enable the energy stored in coal seams to be exploited without the attendant dangers, costs and environmental impacts of conventional mining.
