CUCBM's Strategic Ideas for Making Near-Future Program Of CBM Exploration and Development
Jie Mingxun
(China United Coalbed Methane Co. Ltd.)

Abstract: The paper proposes strategic ideas for formulating CBM program in the near future, i.e. commercial development of CBM, integrated coal extraction and gas production as well as combination of self-financed exploration with cooperative exploration. These are based on analysis of main achievements obtained in CBM exploration and development in China and on the important problems we are facing. The principles for making CBM program are: being guided by market, centering round maximum benefit, overall planning, scientific exploration, combination of self-financed exploration with cooperative exploration.
Keywords: CUCBM; CBM; exploration development; near-future program; strategic ideas

Main Points of Ideas and Methods for CBM Resources Assessment at State Level
Che Changbo, Qiu Haijun, Yang Hulin, Pan Jiping and LiYuxu
(Oil gas Strategy Research Center of Ministry of Land Resources)

Abstract: China is a big coal producing country in the world. China is endowed with abundant coalbed methane resources. The Central Committee of CCP and the State Council attach great importance to development and utilization of CBM resources. In the new round of national oil and gas resources assessment sponsored by Ministry of Land Resource and State Development and Reform Commission, CBM is included in the evaluation as an important substitute resource. The paper introduces briefly the purpose, significance, scope, ideas and method for assessment of CBM.
Keywords: State-level; coalbed methane; resources assessment; ideas; methods

Progress of CBM Exploration Research
Zhang Jianbo, Wang Hongyan, Qian Kai and Liu Honglin
(Langfang Branch, Petrochina Exploration and Development Research Institute)

Abstract: Based on study of papers and literatures in the domain of coalbed methane at home and abroad, especially analysis of exploration research results in the past decade, the paper describes latest progress of coalbed methane exploration in aspects of fundamental geological theory, rules of CBM accumulation and CBM exploration methods at home and abroad. It points out the orientation of near future research on CBM in this country is research on CBM formation and anistrophy of reservoir, mechanism of CBM enrichment into reservoir and rules of distribution and mechanism of effective exploration technology.

CBM Geology and Orientation of Exploration and Development of Eastern Fringe of Ordos Basin
Zhang Guoliang and Jia Gaolong
(China United Coalbed Methane Co. Ltd.)

Abstract: Study on structures, coal-bearing strata, quality of coal seams, permeability of reservoir, reservoir pressure, gas saturation and gas bearing in this region has revealed three target blocks for exploration and development. They are Zhunge'er-Shenfu, Sanjia and Jixian.
Keywords: CBM geology; exploration development; target block; Ordos basin

Comparison of CBM Development Potential in China and USA
Liu Yijun
(China United Coalbed Methane Co. Ltd.)

Abstract: Based on comparison of geological characteristics of major CBM development basins in USA and major CBM development regions in China we find that the sedimental environment in coal formation period and tectonic activities after coal formation have a great influence on coal seams in China. The coal seams have evident anisotropic (heterogeneous) characteristics. In the future the research will focus on compatibility between gas formation period and main tectonic activity periods. Great efforts will be made on research and application of CBM development engineering technology.
Keywords: CBM; development potential; tectonic activity; anisotropic characteristics

Views on Types of Desorption Effect in the Process of CBM Production
Zhang Sui'an
( University of Petroleum, Beijing )

Abstract: Based on to-the-depths study and examination of large quantity of test data of CBM content determination (namely, the desorption tests), data from isotherm adsorption/desorption tests and data obtained from actual gas production. It is found there are essential distinctions between adsorption and desorption. The difference lies in the process of action, conditions, time and types, etc. Based on these difference, the author puts forward, for the first time, the principle for classification of types of CBM desorption and a classification proposal (i.e. four sub-groups: depressurized desorption, temperature rise desorption, replacement desorption and dispersed desorption), which has laid a solid foundation of further research of CBM desorption mechanism.
Keywords: CBM; desorption effect; adsorption

Discussion on Potential and Development Mode of CMM in China
Hu Qianting
(Chongqing Branch of China Coal Research Institute)

Abstract: The paper analyzes the prospect of CMM based on investigations on coal output, gas emission and changes of gas drainage quantity in mine areas in China. It forecasts the mine areas with great development potentials by deliberating distribution of CBM resources, layout of mines areas, and current and future coal production. At the same time, it describes the main modes of CMM development by taking into consideration of the characteristics of coal extraction and CMM development in Chinese mine areas. It points out attention should be attached to not only development of CMM but also to R&D on utilizing low concentration CMM.
Keywords: CMM; development potential; development mode

Directional Drilling Technology and Its Application in Coalmine
Leng Kaikui
( Shanxi Jincheng Asian American Daning Energy Co. Ltd)

Abstract: This paper briefs the long borehole directional drilling technology, selection of typical equipment, process, measuring system and application in coalmines.
Keywords: coalmine; long borehole directional drilling; application

CH4MIN Technology and Its Potential in China Coal Mine
Hristo Sapoundjiev and Jann Gilles
(CANMET Technology Centre of Natural Resources Canada)

Abstract: CH4MIN is a special technology for treatment and utilization of low concentration VAM with a volume concentration of 0.1% -1% by using a catalytic flow- reversal reactor (CFRR ). The temperature of mixed ventilation air increases to a sufficiently high level with the help of catalyst, so that methane is oxidized and produces heat. The aim of this technology is to utilize the heat. The paper describes in detail the operating principles, the test results, feasibility study and its potential in China.
Keywords: CFRR; VAM; greenhouse gas

Latest Progress of Gas Drainage Technology and Reduced Emission as well as Utilization Scheme in Huainan Mine Area
Yuan Liang, Zhang Bingguang, Zhang Ping and Zou Deyong
(Huainan Mining Company Ltd.)

Abstract: Huainan is an old mine area with a mining history of one hundred years. With the increase of mining depth, the increment of gas emission becomes greater and greater, while its threat to work safety is also increasing. To ensure work safety, the broad technical engineers in Huainan mine area has preliminarily found an approach for gas control, which satisfies the requirements of work safety in Huainan mine area. The drained gas is utilized to reduce emission of greenhouse gas and meet the requirements of environmental protection. The experience may be used for references.
