Application of Thermal Well Logging in Fracture Monitoring of Coal-Seam Hydraulic Fracturing
Li Yukui1 and Zhang Suian2
(1. Underground Special Operation Department of Zhongyuan Petroleum Exploration Bureau, Henan 457061; 2. China University of Petroleum, Beijing 102249)

Abstract: The experiments were carried out on thermal well logging before and after hydraulic fracturing and on thermal well logging with water injection after hydraulic fracturing. A method was developed to determine the fracture height of coal seam hydraulic fracturing by thermal well logging, making it possible to properly evaluate the effect of coal seam hydraulic fracturing in a scientific way.
Keywords: coalbed methane; thermal well logging; hydraulic fracturing; fracture monitoring

Flow Problems of Coalbed Gas through Bounded Confining Stratum
Liu Shan and Tong Dengke
(University of Petroleum (East China), Shandong 257061)

Abstract: In this paper, pressure behavior characteristics for the flow problems of coal bed gas in bounded confining stratum are studied. The new mathematical models of the pseudo-steady and unsteady state flow problems with deformed double porosities are built by introducing the permeability module. The numerical solutions for pseudo-steady state flow models are obtained by the direct implicit differential method and Newtonian iterative method, while the numerical solutions for unsteady state flow models are obtained by the regular perturbation method and Laplace transform with the zero order perturbation solutions obtained by the Laplace numerical inversion. The rules of pressure change are discussed when the deformation parameters and double porosities parameters change in the models, and the typical pressure curves under several different conditions are plotted, which provide theoretical bases and well testing methods for oilfield development.
Keywords: coal seams with double porosities; deformed media; numerical solution; nonlinear; well testing analysis

Risk Management of CBM Project in Operation
Tian Yongdong
(Jincheng Anthracite Group Co., Ltd., Shanxi 048006)

Abstract: The main risk factors during the operation of CBM project are identified in a comprehensive and systematic way. The in-depth analyses on risk factors are made from various perspectives, with the quantitative evaluation made on part of risk factors. In the light of the actual operation of CBM project, the coping strategies and monitoring measures are suggested. It is indicated that the current risk level is high for the operation of CBM project, and therefore the CBM well management and CBM market development need to be strengthened in order to lower the risk and improve the profitability of CBM project.
Keywords: CBM Project; operation; risk management

Potential of Horizontal Mine Gas Drainage for Underground Hard Coal Mining
