Methane to Markets Partnership: Opportunities for Coal Mine
Methane Project Development
Pamela M. Franklin, Roger Fernandez and Clark C. Talkington
(U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington)Abstract: Coal mine methane is one important source of global methane emission. The initiation of Methane to Markets Partnership aimed at identifying and developing relevant industrial projects in order to reduce the methane emission from various sectors such as coal mines, landfills, and oil and natural gas systems. The coal mine methane project development is among the three key components of Methane to Markets Partnership, and will play a major role in the implementation of Methane to Markets Partnership.

CMM Recovery Technologies in Low-permeability Coal Seams of Jixi Coal Mining Area
Pei Mingshun
(Jixi Mining Group Company, Heilongjiang 158100)Abstract£ºThe large gas liberation during the coal mining, together with low-permeability coal seams, seriously threatens the mine production in Jixi Coal Mining Area. Currently, in order to control gas and enhance CMM recovery, various methods are adopted in Jixi Coal Mining Area such as upper roadway CMM drainage of low-permeability coal seams, upper near-horizontal hole drilling, coal seam plus-angle hole drilling, and roof large-diameter horizontal hole drilling, with satisfactory drainage results.

Study on Microcrack Supporting Effect in Hydraulic Fracturing of Coal Seams
Li Yukui, Wang Fengming and Yao Xiaoqin
(Underground Special Operation Department of Zhongyuan Oilfield, Henan 457164)Abstract: Due to the physical properties of coal seams, a large amount of microcracks will be occur after hydraulic sand fracturing of coal seams. To fill and support microcracks using the supporting sand with suitable grain diameters not only reduces the filtrate loss but also helps conduct the microcrack pressure drop, which will strengthen the effect of hydraulic fracturing for production increase. In this paper, the above-mentioned viewpoint is argued, and the reasonable suggestions for hydraulic fracturing are put forward.

The Application of the Pinnate Horizontal Multilateral Well Numerical Simulation Technology
in Daning Coalbed Gas Test Area
Zhang Yapu
(Institute of Porous Flow and Fluid Mechanics in Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hebei 065007)Abstract: The directional pinnate horizontal multilateral well has been a rising technology in recent years for increasing coalbed gas recovery. Its application is still in the test stage in China. China drilled the first pinnate horizontal multilateral well DNP02 in Daning test area. In this paper, the numerical simulation technology of the directional pinnate horizontal multilateral well is introduced briefly. Based on the geological conditions in Daning test area, the production capacity of the test well DNP02 is predicted, which will be used for the scheme design and economic evaluation in coalbed gas development.
