(1. Energy and Safety College, China University of Mining Technology, Jiangsu 221008;
2. Tiefa Coal Mining (Group) Limited Liability Corporation, Liaoning 112700)Abstract£ºBased on research of rules of roof movement when coal seams of low permeability are extracted, Tiefa mine area undertook the first technical demonstration project supported by UNDP of drilling surface vertical gob wells in 1994. Through application and research of 21 gob wells Tiefa mine area has obtained rich experience and good results with the principles and theory of gob well patterns. A great deal of practice has also proved that the surface vertical gob well technology is one of the most effective technologies for coal seams with low permeability, especially when mining a group of coal seams.

Wu Jianguo1,2 and Li Wei2
(1. China University of Mining Technology, Jiangsu 221008;
2. Huaibei Mining Group Corporation, Anhui 235006)
Abstract£ºHuaibei Coalfield, with rich CBM resources, is situated in the backland of East China where energy resources are in shortage. The paper describes the occurrence of CBM in Huaibei Mining Area, the drainage method, and current status of utilization. Based on the geological conditions of coal seams in Huaibei Mining Area, it points out the difficult points in drainage and utilization of coalbed methane, as well as the method for draining the gas under the strata disturbance induced by coal mining. It describes the new approach for co-mining of coal and CBM by ¡°using one well for three purposes¡±.

Problems in Data Acquisition of 2D Seismic Prospecting for a CBM Project
Zhou Shangzhong
(China United Coalbed Methane Corporation, Beijing 100011)
Abstract£ºBased on the summary of the site experience with data acquisition in 2D seismic prospecting for a CBM project and the analysis of the results of interpretation, the paper describes the importance of parameter acquisition of the selected objective target strata and establishment of a standardized quality control system. In the field work efforts should be focused on the following work, investigation of the surface layer, strict quality control over drilling and cartridge charging, burying the detectors with effective method, good coupling of detectors with the surface equipment to ensure that the signals are true and can reflect the underground geological conditions objectively.

Current Status and Prospects of CMM Power Generation
Zhang Wansheng and Tang Lichao
(Huainan Mining Group, Anhui 232001)
Abstract£ºUtilization of gas for power generation not only can save energy and reduce pollution, but also will bring about considerable economic benefits. Taking into consideration of the actual conditions in gas power generation in Huanan Mining Group, the paper analyzes briefly the feasibility of power generation with gas. It depicts the problems encountered in further development of gas power generation, and suggests that China should give more policy support in this regard.

Application of Y445 Series of Bridge Plugs in Fracturing of CBM Wells
Ren Yuanfeng
(Underground Operation Company of North China Petroleum Administration, Hebei 065007)Abstract£ºThe CBM wells are generally shallow and intersect multiple layers. The selection of proper bridge plug for layer fracturing is very important to rapid completion of CBM wells with high quality and low cost. Y445 series of bridge plugs were successfully applied in layer fracturing of CBM wells and met the requirements.

Increasing Concentration of Gas Drained from Mined-out Area of the Working Face
by Means of Gas Chamber
Zeng Qingyang and Huang Guibing
(Coal Research Institute of Hunan Province, Hunan 410004)Abstract£ºIn mining multiple seams, a large quantity of gas rushes into the working face from adjacent seams when pressure is released due to coal extraction. It results in the concentration of gas exceeding the stipulated limit in the upper corner of the work face as well as in the tailgate. The drainage method must be used to address the problem. However the gas concentration of gas drained by the conventional method is too low to be used by the residents. A section of supplementary airway is driven near the upper exit of work face, and a temporary stopping is built at the existing tailgate, forming a gas chamber in the upper corner. The gas chamber is connected with drainage pipeline in order to increase gas concentration and gas utilization rate.
