 "The Third International CMM/CBM Symposium" was held solemnly on November 13-14 at KunLun hotel in Beijing , China. This event was co-sponsored by US Environmental Protection Agency , State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision of China , US Environmental Protection Agency and China National Association and organized by China Coal Information Institute . Those who were presented at the meeting included Mr.Fang Weitang ,Chairman of China National Coal Association , Mr. Zhao Tiechui ,Vice President of State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision of China , Mr.Shi Qinghuan ,Party Member of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China , Mr.Dou Qingfeng , President of China Coal Information Institute , Mr Huang Shengchu , Vice President of the institute and other leaders concerned from State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision of China and China Coal National Association .More than 130 representatives participated the meeting include the officials from the international organizations include US Environmental Protection Agency , the World Bank , Asian Development Bank and the United National Development Programme etc. and the others from the United States , Britain , Australia , Japan and Netherlands and the domestic department of mine , petroleum and geology .
Mr.Fan Weitang ,Chairman of China National Coal Association welcomed the international agencies and the foreign companies to explore coalbed methane projects in china so as to push forward the advancement of science and technology and the international cooperation in his opening address . Mr. Zhao Tiechui ,Vice President of State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision emphasized in his speech that methane exploration in the mine areas were provided with favorable infrastructures and both surface exploration and underground extraction should be carried on concurrently and industrialized development should be advocated . Mr.Dou Qingfeng , President of the CCII delivered welcome address at the opening session and pointed out that CCII would provide better consulting services for methane exploration to the international cooperation by making use of their predomination furtherly . 
Five plenary sessions were arranged in this meeting , namely (1) the opportunities and challenge in development of CBM/CMM in china (2)CBM/CMM resources evaluation (3)the technology of surface exploratory and underground extraction (4) the utilization technologies of CBM/CMM (5) clean development mechanism.. Mr.Huang Shengchu ,Vice President of CCII and Mr.Karl H.scholtz. Manger of Coalbed Metane Programmes of US EPA chaired the discussion of the meeting co-jointly .Mrs. hu yuhong presented the subject report , that is "exploration technology of coalbed methane from abandoned coal mine and the key issues".
The preparatory work of this meeting was in charge of by the Coalbed Methane Clearinghouse . Under the leading of Mrs. Hu Yuhong , Director of the Coalbed Methane Clearinghouse ,The preparatory committee include Liu Wenge , Liu Xin , Yu Jia , Jiao Lina , Lin Haibo etc. went to the trouble of working extra hours cooperatively and unitedly . Especially during the period of meeting , they worked far into the night every day .
