Workshop Objective:

The purpose of the workshop is to focus on the successful development of coal mine
methane projects in China, including ventilation air methane projects. Several case
studies will be developed and presented. The workshop will also provide a unique
opportunity for interactive discussion with representatives from other developing coal
mining countries to discuss the relevance of the Chinese experiences to overcoming
project development barriers.

Australian Company CMM China Project Case Study

Mr John Hocken, ComEnergy

Mr. Hocken will present information about ComEnergy
Technology which uses mine gas - including ventilation air and
waste coal - to generate power. He will discuss the results of
Project Studies undertaken both in Australia and China including the fuels used and commercial outcomes.

Dr Ren will present an AGO/CSIRO sponsored case study
demonstrating the procedures for and the economics of how to
recover mine methane in a Chinese coal mine by improving
drainage systems and how to efficiently utilise the drainage gas.

United States VAM Pre-feasibility Study at Huainan Mine

Mr. Lee Schultz, BCS Incorporated

Mr Schultz will present the results of a US EPA sponsored prefeasibility evaluation of ventilation air methane-to-energy project
potential at five mines in the Huainan Mining Group. He will
address technical feasibility, economic viability and key factors
for project success.

Panelists from developing countries and entire workshop
participation.
This panel will discuss country specific opportunities and barriers
to CMM recovery and utilisation in the developing countries
and/or countries in economic transition with a focus on the
countries in attendance including China. The panellists will
discuss an overview of CMM potential in their countries with a
focus on barriers and opportunities unique to their domestic
situation. The panel and group discussion should enable a better
understanding of the ranges of experiences in overcoming barriers
to CMM recovery and use in many countries and regions
including China.
