The 6th International Workshop on CBM/CMM in China was convened at Landmark Hotel in Beijing.

    On October 17th -18th,¡°the 6th International Workshop on CBM/CMM in China¡± was solemnly convened at Landmark Hotel in Beijing. This international workshop was jointly sponsored by State Administration of Work Safety(SAWS), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and the World Bank,and was organized by National Institute for Occupational Safety (NIOS).
Mr.Peng Jianxun, deputy minister of State Administration of Coal Mine Safety(SACMS) attended the workshop and gave an important lecture. Related leaders from National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC), State Administration of Work Safety(SAWS), State Administration of Coal Mine Safety(SACMS),and Mr. David Murphy from the United States Embassy in China, Dr. Pamela M. Franklin from Coalbed Methane Outreach Program Climate Change Division of U.S. EPA, Mr.Bert Hofman, chief economist of the World Bank, and president Huang Shengchu, Mr. Dou Qingfeng-Secretary of CCP of NIOS, deputy president Zhang Wenshan and He Guojia attended the workshop. More than 130 experts and delegates at home and abroad attended the workshop, including people from related organs and companies of United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), U.S.A., U.K., Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, Japan and Sweden.
Deputy minister Peng Jianxun pointed out in the opening address that Chinese government always attaches great importance to the prevention and utilization of CBM/CMM, and adopts a series of measures to enhance the prevention and utilization projects. China has abundant Coal Mine Gas resources£¬with a total amount of 30-35 trillion m3.The exploration and utilization of CBM/CMM speed up in recent yeas and it will certainly bring the huge commercial opportunity and the broader cooperation prospect. International Workshop on CBM/CMM is an important activity in the field of CBM/CMM development, China and America had already conducted five sessions successfully. The current workshop which convenes in Beijing provides a good chance for us to learn the advanced experience and technology from both domestic and abroad. Using this platform, all the delegates will carry on the wide-ranging exchange discussion centered around the exploration and utilization of CBM/CMM, show the new research products for internal and external, and it will have a positive effect on promoting technology with gas prevention, constructing intrinsically safety coal mine, protecting safety of miner¡¯s life and promoting exploration and utilization of Coal Mine Gas to benefit the human beings.
Dr. Pamela M. Franklin, director of Coalbed Methane Outreach Program Climate Change Division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) addressed on the opening ceremony, highly praised the long-term cooperation between China and America in the fields of CBM/CMM, especially the China Coalbed Methane Information Center that set up under the cooperation of both sides was praised as ¡°the model of China-America cooperation¡±. This center had obtained a batch of important research results for the past over 10 years, including 120MW coalbed methane power plant in Jincheng city, coal mine ventilation and gas utilization project in Huainan, etc.
The two-day long workshop contained a seminar of the World Bank on the topic of ¡°A Strategy for CBM/CMM Development and Utilization in China¡±, which consists of controlling technology of coal mine gas, technology of coal mine ventilation and gas utilization, development of CBM/CMM, and exploration of CDM project. The workshop had achieved the anticipated effect, and it is a successful grand meeting. It not only strengthened the international cooperation on the field of CBM/CMM, but also improved the friendship among the delegates from both domestic and abroad, it will have a significant influence on development of CBM/CMM and enhancement of the CBM/CMM safety.
