The Sihe coal mine of the Jincheng Coal Mine Administration in Shanxi Province is a key construction project that was approved during the national ninth ¡°five year plan¡± period. During the construction, especially after the coal mine began to excavate coal, the gas inburst was often beyond the limit seriously and resulted in gas explosion, which brought considerable potential dangers to safe construction. In consideration of this, the Jincheng Coal Mine Administration decided to deflate the coal-bed gas first, and then to mine the coal. Nowadays, the actual gas deflation amounts to 560,000 m3/d, in which most of it was aired to the atmosphere and only a small parts was utilized. This has resulted in the wasting of clean energy resources and also the pollution of the environment. How to make full use of the aired coalbed methane has become an urgent problem to be solved. There were several proposals which have been suggested but most of these proposals have been eventually abandoned because the mines are far away from the urban area. Considering the investment and construction speed, the best proposal is one to use coalbed gas to generate electricity around the mine areas. By investigation and research, the Jicheng Coal Mine Administration has chosen the QDR-20 gas turbine CHP set, which uses coalbed gas as fuel and is made by the Gas Turbine Combined Installation Engineering Company of the South Power Machinery Corporation. This QDR-20 gas turbine CHP set generates electricity and steam first, and then uses a steam engine to use the steam to re-generate electricity, which realizes the combined cycling.
The distinctive features of the QDR-20 gas turbine CHP set made by the Gas turbine Combined Installation Company of the South Power Machinery Corporation is small floor space, fast start-up and shutdown, non-stepped output adjustment, and maneuver and agility. Therefore, it has been awarded several national and ministerial science and technology achievements. Several of this set have been used in Shandong, Liaoling, Shaan¡¯xi, Guangdong, Hunan Provinces. Diesel, oilfield associated gas, coke furnace gas, and refinery exhaust gas can all be used as fuel to generate electricity and heat with this set. The set has created good economic interests for the users and has also contributed to the energy saving and environmental pollution reduction. Hence, three Ministries of China have labeled the set as the ninth ¡°five year plan¡± energy saving product, and formal governmental documents have been dispatched to recommend all departments and local users to popularize and to use this product.
The gas turbine used by this product is the turbo propped-sixthly innovated gas turbine made by the South Power Machinery Corporation, equipped with alternator, waste heat boiler and auxiliary equipment. The South Gas turbine Company will implement integrated services from design, manufacture, installation, and debugging to after-sale service. The main parameters of performance of this set are as follows:
Under the ISO condition:
Rated generation power 2000kW
Rated output voltage 6.3 or 10.5kV
Power factor 0.8 (lagged)
Steam output 6t/h
Steam pressure 1.3Mpa
Steam temperature 300oC
Combustion engine thermal efficiency 23%
Integrative thermal output coefficient >70%
This is the first time for the turbo propped-sixthly innovated steam turbine to use the coalbed gas as fuel. We have studied two technical questions:
The first is to guarantee the reliable start-up and stable operation to adapt to the considerable fluctuations in gas concentration and heat value; the second is to prevent compression and burning explosion. For these reasons, we studied the relevant data, and went to the Laohutai coal mine of the Fushun City for investigation and research. The Laohutai coal mine imported a gas turbine power generating set from the Netherlands, which uses coalbed gas as fuel. At beginning, this set was well debugged and run successfully, however, as no spare parts available, the generating set stopped running after some parts were damaged. After investigation and research, we reached a conclusion that it is out of question to use the coalbed methane as fuel for gas turbines.
In the Sihe coal mine of the Jincheng Coal Mine Administration in Shanxi Province, the QRD-20 gas turbine set was installed in the early July 2000. Now the set has accomplished its static debugging and entered the slow operation period. The QRD-20 gas turbine set, which uses coalbed methane as its fuel, has achieved preliminary success so far. We hope that those mines with abundant coalbed methane resources will use the ORD-20 gas turbine set to achieve better economic and social interests.
